Project GRØD: Custom Shelving System for the New HQ
Our loyal client and friends from GRØD were relocating their office, so we engaged in a discussion on how duuo could assist. In addition to our regular cleaning and window cleaning services, GRØD desired a custom-designed shelving system for their new office.
We sent our two skilled handymen/carpenters, Antonios and George, who had previously assisted GRØD with the renovation of several of their restaurants.
We were given a fun task. Our client had a clear request for a hanging storage solution that not only served a practical purpose but also functioned as a display for showcasing their products such as caramel sauce, various canned/bottled jams, peanut butter, and more.
GRØD is a Danish restaurant chain founded in 2011 by Danish entrepreneur Lasse Skjønning. Since 2011, several restaurants have opened, and to date, there are 10 restaurants in and around Copenhagen. In addition to the 10 restaurants, GRØD has expanded its business, offering products in convenience stores such as 7-Eleven and supermarkets like Føtex, Irma, Meny, and more GRØD specializes in making porridge in various forms and variations, with the sole purpose of showing the world that porridge is much more than bland peasant food.
GRØD envisioned a floating shelving system spanning an impressive 8 x 3.5 meters in length. This ambitious design required innovative solutions and flawless execution to turn their vision into reality.
The client's request came with an interesting twist—they wanted to preserve the industrial atmosphere in the space. This presented an exciting opportunity as the building itself had a history as a former mechanic's workshop. Our task was to ensure that our carpentry seamlessly integrated into this industrial environment.
The challenge was to create a design that wouldn't disrupt the authentic ambiance of the place but rather enhance it while delivering a functional and visually appealing solution.
Precise measurements are crucial in carpentry. We took accurate measurements of the designated area where the shelf would be installed, including measurements for each individual shelf. This ensures that the final product fits perfectly and looks aesthetically pleasing.
Next, we cut the selected wood into the necessary elements, creating the individual components for the shelf. This included cutting the shelves to the desired length and width and shaping them according to the preferred design.
To achieve a smooth and flawless surface, we carefully sanded the wood. This process removes sharp edges, uneven surfaces, and any imperfections in the wood, preparing it for the finishing touches.

With the shelf components prepared and the mounting brackets in place, we proceeded to install the shelf securely on the wall. Ensuring that it is level and properly secured is crucial for both safety and aesthetics.
Typically, we handle both large and small painting tasks, but in this case, it was agreed in advance that GRØD would handle painting and finishing, allowing us to focus solely on the installation. The client chose a color that matched the background and the overall design. It was well-executed and looked fantastic.

In 2020 duuo established a handy department for smaller carpentry and assembly tasks, but has now expanded and established a carpentry department alongside of it. The carpentry department handles larger construction and carpentry projects, including custom furniture, design, and wood additions for offices in Copenhagen.
